CONCUSSION
Should you rest or try to stay active?
TRUE or FALSE?
After a concussion, you should fully rest until all symptoms are gone.
Turns out, it is FALSE. Following a concussion, research shows that it is recommended to try to stay active, but of course within the symptomatic tolerance. That is, try to keep both your body and mind active but only to the point where you have no symptoms.
The Zurich Consensus on concussions established in 2017 recommends an initial 24-28 hour rest following the concussion, but then returning to physical activity as long as it "stays below the cognitive and physical symptom exacerbation threshold"
